Feliciano ‘Philip’ di Giorgio is a native of New York City who spent a significant portion of his youth in Europe.

Of Italian ancestry, he was raised in a household of opera singers and developed an early interest in the arts.

Upon returning to the United States, he studied industrial design at the Rochester Institute of Technology and character animation at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).

Visual Effects

Before returning to CalArts for his final year of studies, Feli di Giorgio was recruited by the then start-up Digital Domain—founded by James Cameron, Stan Winston, Scott Ross, and IBM—as one of its first artists.

He quickly rose through the ranks and, to date, has worked on dozens of commercials and more than 40 feature films, as an artist and supervisor. These include classics such as True Lies, Apollo 13, and Titanic, as well as contemporary titles including Where the Wild Things Are, TRON: Legacy, Iron Man III, and The Avengers.

Over the course of his visual effects career, he has worked for notable companies including Digital Domain, Walt Disney Feature Animation, Sony Imageworks, Method Studios, MPC, Framestore, Prime Focus VFX, The Mill, and ScanlineVFX, serving in roles ranging from senior artist to supervisor and department head.

He later joined Apple Inc. as a Visual Effects Supervisor and Colorist. In this capacity, he was involved in the development of Apple’s large-format LED Retail Store Video Wall, helping guide the system from prototype through full deployment across retail locations. Following deployment, he contributed as a visual effects supervisor and colorist to the creation and finishing of original content specifically designed for the Video Wall platform.

His work has been recognized with wins and nominations from the Visual Effects Society (VES), as well as a Clio Gold Award and others.

Directorial

In recent years, he has begun positioning himself as a director and has completed several short films. He is currently developing his first feature film while continuing to produce and shoot smaller projects.

Photography

A lifelong photographer, he specializes in photojournalistic and street photography. He primarily works in black-and-white and with natural light. While long committed to analog processes, he is gradually warming to the idea that digital photography is not merely a passing fad—and that color may not be quite the distraction he once believed it to be.
